Ahmed Ololade, the Nigerian music star better known as Asake, has won the ‘Best African Music Act’ at the 2024 MOBO Awards.
MOBO Awards ceremony is an annual British presentation honouring achievements in “music of black origin”.
The 26th edition was held on Wednesday at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena, UK.
The event was hosted by Indiyah Polack, the TV personality, and Babatunde Aléshé, the stand-up comedian.
Asake defeated South Africa’s Tyla and music heavyweights like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido to clinch the ‘Best African Music Act’ category.
Other nominees in the category included Rema, Adekunle Gold, and Ayra Starr.
The win for Asake comes a few days after he lost the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category at this year’s Grammy Awards to Tyla.
P2J, another Nigerian who was nominated in the ‘Best Producer’ category, lost to Inflo, the British songwriter.
